This study followed a cohort of former ELLs for two years after they exited the EL program. The exit school year for this cohort was between August 2022 and June 2023. We compared their academic achievement in English language arts (ELA) and math with a cohort of students who were never English learners (non-ELL). We used propensity score matching to compare this group of former ELLs with non-ELL students in the same grade levels. The achievements in both end-of-year ELA and math did not differ across the ELL and the PSM-matched non-ELL group. The analysis indicates that former ELL students in Collier County Public Schools consistently performed on par with their non-ELL peers. The results could be used as one of the indicators of the long-term efficacy of current ELL programs, inform resource allocation, and ensure that former ELL students continue to receive any necessary support to thrive academically.
